In Mariani, Haiti
The people of the traditional religion do not always receive the help needed from the American Red Cross, delivered by representatives who use their own personal prejudices and practice religious discrimination. The efforts of the Red Cross are compromised and do not reach the people who are of the traditional religion of Haiti. On previous relief aid trips to Haiti, LePeristyle team members saw various items that were clearly donated, being sold for profit. Bags of rice that were marked 'US AID' were being sold at high prices in the open market; paper cups were labeled 'Holiday Inn' and paper plates packaged and marked 'ShopRite', again clearly donated goods were being sold in Haitian supermarkets. These items were donated for relief efforts and instead were found in the Haitian open markets and stores, being sold for profit.
